Welsh Rambles
I am a descendent of Welsh farmers from the Rhondda Valleys of South Wales and can trace my family back to the stone foundation of an 18th century farmhouse near the village of Llanwynno and the headstones of the Moses family in the St. Gwynno Churchyard. I’ve visited Wales three times since 2004, each visit strengthening my connection to the beauty of the land and the warmth of its people.
The photographs in this collection are from my most recent stay in 2014—from Snowdonia and Anglesey in the north to the Rhondda Valleys and the Gower Peninsula in the south. In this work, I kept the colors as true to my eye’s perception as possible. The greens in Wales are unbelievably vibrant, somehow even richer than those in Scotland or England. I know it sounds an exaggeration, but that was my immediate perception this last visit, and I want my images to express that beauty—to convey both verisimilitude and its dream-like transcendence.
